Dr. Freddy Humberto Escobar M., born in Tame, Arauca (Colombia) on June 3, 1965, holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Universidad de América (Bogotá, 1989), an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering with an emphasis in Reservoir Simulation (1995), and a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering specializing in Well Test Analysis (2002), both from the University of Oklahoma. He is a Full Professor (Tenure, highest academic rank) in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Universidad Surcolombiana (USCO), Neiva, Colombia, where he has taught all courses in Reservoir Engineering. During his 2015 sabbatical, he served as a Visiting Professor at the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. From May 2007 to June 2008, he was Vice President for Research and Social Development at USCO, where he also served as Interim President on 23 occasions. He is actively involved in two Catholic organizations.
Dr. Freddy Humberto Escobar M has extensive industry experience. Between November 2006 and January 2009, he worked as an Advisor for Engineering and Special Projects at Hydrocarbon Services Ltd. From January 2009 to July 2011, he led Well Test, PLT, and ILT Interpretation and Training Programs at Colregistros S.A. Since August 2011, he has been a Specialized Consultant for Petrogroup – Training and Consulting Co., primarily advising CEDEX (Exploration Decision Center) of Ecopetrol (through third parties) and several operator and service companies in the hydrocarbon sector. Additionally, he is a certified instructor for Schlumberger-NeXT.
He has secured over US$2.4 million in research funding. To date, he has supervised 84 B.S. theses and eight M.S. theses. His scholarly contributions include:

He is the Faculty Sponsor of the SPE Student Chapter at Universidad Surcolombiana and served as a member of the SPE Formation Evaluation Award Committee (2013-2016). Additionally, he acts as a peer reviewer for the Colombian National Accreditation Board. Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Dr. Escobar was a member of the Teams of Our Lady (2005-2020), a Catholic organization focused on spirituality within marriage. He completed his formation as a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Neiva and was ordained in August 2022. Currently, he is pursuing Theology studies at Universidad Católica de Oriente.
